The service is located at 2121 Stephenson Drive dock 24 and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round.

The UT Public Recycling Drop Off Awareness Day will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 1 at the Stephenson Drive location. Its goal is to educate the local community and to increase usage of the free service.

Items that can be recycled at the drop off include glass bottles and jars, plastic #1-7, plastic film (plastic bags, plastic wrap), paper, steel cans, aluminum cans, scrap metal, cardboard, electronic waste (headphones, keyboards, monitors, mice, etc.), batteries, and printer cartridges.

“The sultry neo-psychedelic sound of the Black Angels came together in spring 2004. Hailing from Austin, Texas, they initially comprised Stephanie Bailey (drums), Christian Bland (guitar), Alex Maas (vocals), Jennifer Raines (organ), and Nathan Ryan (bass), and took their name from a Velvet Underground classic, “The Black Angel’s Death Song.” The band’s self-titled debut EP was released in late 2005. After a string of North American dates in winter 2006, they readied themselves for a performance at the annual South by Southwest Music Conference in March. Their first couple of full-length albums — April 2006’s Passover and April 2008’s Directions to See a Ghost — were both, in the main, recorded at Erik Wofford’s Austin, Texas-based Cacophony Recorders, a studio also used by other local and notable indie rock acts such as White Denim and Voxtrot. By the time the second record was issued, Raines had been replaced by multi-instrumentalist Kyle Hunt and the Black Angels were beginning to create a name for themselves on the live circuit among fans of ’60s-inspired psych rock.

In late 2008, they performed as the backing band for former 13th Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson on a series of dates across the West Coast of the U.S. Next, in 2010, they recorded a couple of collaborative tracks with Unkle, one of which — “With You in My Head” — appeared on the soundtrack to that summer’s multi-million-grossing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. This large-scale exposure led to […]

Darwin Day 2017 UTK. February 5th to 25th.

Darwin Day in Knoxville, Tennessee is a volunteer-run event dedicated to informing the public about evolution and its importance as a unifying concept in all of biology. Our goal is to disseminate factual information, in the context of a non-confrontational and rational discussion based on empirical evidence without pre-conceived ideological agendas or uncritical faith in the opinions of scientists, politicians, or clerics. In a state with past and recent legislative efforts to introduce faith-based ideologies into the science classrooms of public schools, these efforts are particularly important.

We sponsored the first Darwin Day event on February 12th of 1997, the 188th birthday of Charles Robert Darwin. Since this first Darwin Day, the annual celebration has grown to include an annual keynote speaker, a teacher’s workshop, and other events.

The theme for 2017’s Darwin Day is Plant Adaptation and there will be four events hosted from February 5th to 25th, along with contests that last until February 20th, 2017!
