June 24, 2013 - 7:00pm

On Monday night, June 24, the Kopecky Family Band will be performing a live show at the Bowery in the Old City. The show starts at 8 p.m., tickets will be $5 in advance, and $8 at the door.

The Kopecky Family Band was first drawn together after co-founders Kelsey Kopecky and Gabe Simon first started playing together in 2007.

“Gabe started playing and I was totally blown away,” Kopecky remembers, “by his melodies, his talent. Something in the way he played felt so familiar to me and moving. I asked him if he wanted to get together and play some, sing some. And a few days later we did that. And it was crazy, it came together immediately– it just fit”

Simon also acknowledged the two musicians chemistry after first playing together

“I had just met her,” remembers Simon, “but when we sang together, it sounds corny, but it felt like we’d known each other forever. Old souls meeting again. We were finishing each others lyrics, just immediately connected in the music“I had just met her,” remembers Simon, “but when we sang together, it sounds corny, but it felt like we’d known each other forever. Old souls meeting again. We were finishing each other’s lyrics, just immediately connected in the music .”

Kopecky and Simon rolled from there, adding Steve Holmes on guitar, David Krohn on drums, Markus Midkiff on cello, and Cory Oxendine on bass. The band has since released 2 EP’s and one studio album titled Kids Raising Kids that was released last October.

Doors for this show open at 7p.m. Tickets will be $5 in advance and $8 at the door, there will also be a $2 surcharge for patrons under 21. “I had just met her,” remembers Simon, “but when we sang together, it sounds corny, but it felt like we’d known each other forever.
