KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Lady Vols (1-2) fell in a pair of four-set matches to Bowling Green (1-2) and No. 13 Purdue (3-0) on the final day of the Tennessee Classic.
After a strong start to the season in Friday night’s opener, the Lady Vols seemed to run out of gas in Saturday’s doubleheader.
The first set against Bowling Green ended on a Keondreya Granberry attacking error, giving the Falcons a 26-24 victory. Then Bowling Green got out to a hot start in the following set and rode off the momentum to a 25-16 win.
The third set featured a furious Bowling Green run to tie it at 24, but it would belong to the Lady Vols 28-26. However, the Falcons went on a run in the second half of the fourth set, and it would be too much for Tennessee to handle as Bowling Green would take down the Lady Vols.
Coming off the tough loss earlier in the day, Tennessee brought lots of energy in the first set of the Purdue match as they took it 25-20. The second set came down to a pair of points for the Boilermakers, who beat out the Lady Vols 23-25.
A surge in the middle of the third set would catapult Purdue to a 25-18 set win. The result of the fourth set was similar to that of the third as the Boilermakers would ice the match and the Tennessee Classic with a 25-19 victory.
The Lady Vols end the weekend with a 1-2 record and will head to Raleigh, NC next weekend for the NC State Classic where it will see Elon, Colgate, and NC State.
