KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– The Tennessee Lady Vols soccer team (2-2-1) cruised to a landslide 7-0 victory against Tennessee Tech’s Golden Eagles (1-2-3) on Sunday night at Regal Soccer Stadium.

The Lady Vols started off extremely hot with two goals coming in the first five minutes of action, barely giving fans any time to get settled in their seats. The rest of the first half saw pure dominance in the midfield from the Lady Vols as they racked up two more to bring the game to 4-0 at half.

Jordan Fusco, the sophomore from Olmsted Township, Ohio, secured a brace with both of her goals coming from just a hair outside the eighteen yard box. Freshman Macaira Midgley also netted her first collegiate goal. The rest of the goals were provided one a piece from Jaida Thomas, Abbey Burdette, Mackenzie George, and Taylor Huff.

Jaida Thomas continues to solidify herself in the school’s record books with her goal adding to her climb to the top of Tennessee’s all time scoring list. Her goal on Sunday could perhaps be an early contender for Lady Vols goal of the season as it came off of a half turn volley from near the eighteen yard box.

This game was marked by extremely impressive play from the Lady Vols who held clear control of the midfield the entire match. Crafty passing allowed for good possession as the team worked down the field to enable their players to make runs down the wing and cross back into the box. This tactic provided a lion’s share of the Lady Vols’ scoring opportunities enabling them to wear down the Golden Eagles and rack up goals.

This performance shows marked improvement from the Lady Vols’ slow season start as the team seems to begin to mesh under new head coach Joe Kirt’s leadership. His tactical vision seemed to finally start to click with the players, as they showed continued improvement from their previous 4-0 victory over Bowling Green. The team looked more confident and kept their shape well.

The Lady Vols will play Kennesaw State next at Regal Soccer Stadium on Thursday night 6:30 P.M. EST.
