The unbeaten No. 8 Lady Volunteers soccer team traveled for a major road test and took care of business, earning their first in-conference victory of the season with a 3-1 win over LSU.
The Lady Vols had an impressive offensive showing, finishing with shots on goal, six corner kicks, and 10 shot attempts.
The clear player of the night was junior Ines Derrien. This transfer from the University of Southern California has been a huge asset to the team, providing two assists and two goals in the past three games.
Continuing her scoring streak, Derrien finished the night with three shots on goal, one assist, and a penalty kick to the top of the net in the 77th minute.
Dierren was not the only player who stood out offensively, though. Fifth-year senior Shae O’Rourke rolled a ball into the back of the net in the 11th minute, setting the tone early. In the 55th minute, senior forward Taylor Cheatham headed home a huge corner kick, keeping the momentum rolling for the Lady Vols.
The Lady Vols’ defense wasn’t lost on the audience. The team held the Tigers to one score and finished with one save, blocking a ton of shots across the second half to keep all the momentum with the women in orange and white.
Overall, an absolute statement win for the Lady Vols. The offense looks dynamic heading into SEC play for the remainder of the season. Fans can see whether this momentum will continue on September 18, against the Texas Longhorns at 8 P.M. EST.
