Early in the season, the Lady Vols women’s soccer team looked unstoppable, scoring 16 goals against non-conference opponents. They climbed higher in the rankings without losing a match.
But when the team hit the SEC, everything changed. Scoring only six goals in the last six conference games won’t cut it for the Lady Volunteers moving forward.
Friday’s loss to South Carolina was the same offensive struggle. The team managed three shots on goal and three corner kick opportunities, courtesy of forward Kylee Simmons. But the team was ultimately shut down by the Gamecock defense and finished scoreless.
Goalkeeper Cayden Norris also struggled against the South Carolina offense, making zero saves and allowing two goals.
The Lady Vols also played sloppily, finishing with 15 fouls and three yellow cards. Evidently, the loss to the Gamecocks stings.
The Lady Vols soccer team will have to return to Knoxville, get back into practice, and change their offensive scheme if they want to remain a powerhouse in the SEC.
UP NEXT: The offense’s next showing is Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
