Tennessee Scores 18 in Dominant Rout of Hofstra

By Jay King

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The BaseVols played their second game in their opening series versus the Hofstra Pride and absolutely dominated them again, this time winning 18-1.

Despite the very cold weather and the rain, the bats were very much alive, as Tennessee tallied 11 hits today, which led to 18 runs, and even hit their first grand slam this season delivered by center-fielder Hunter Ensley. Levi Clark and Blake Grimmer were the other batters to get a home run as well.

Pitching was also very good as Marcus Phillips, Michael Sharman, Austin Hunley, Brandon Arvidson, and Thomas Crabtree all only gave up two hits, and one run all game. Hunley was awarded the win in relief, despite only throwing nine pitches.

The fielding could have been better, as they had two errors, but those came early in the game.

Tennessee has officially clinched their first series this season, and they have a chance to get the series sweep tomorrow at 11 am EST back at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
