KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Lady Vols (3-2-1) took down Kennesaw State (1-5-1) in a 5-0 beatdown on Thursday night at Regal Soccer Stadium.

The first half started slow, but Tennessee soon kept it in the attacking third as forward Jaida Thomas had a pair of near misses for Tennessee.

Despite the missed opportunities, Thomas would see the ball go in eventually as she scored a pair of goals in the 25th and 43rd minute, her sixth and seventh goals of the season. The Lady Vols outshot Kennesaw State 15-2, and Thomas’ goals would propel Tennessee to a 2-0 lead at half.

The second half started with a bang as Mackenzie George would score less than two minutes in.

George would be back for more as she and Jordan Fusco would score a pair of goals in the middle of the half. The Lady Vols once again outshot the Owls significantly, finishing the game with a 29-5 edge on shots. Tennessee emptied its bench later on in the half as they finished it out 5-0.

The win gives Tennessee its first winning record of the season and the Lady Vols have three straight shutouts and have outscored opponents 16-0 in that span.

The Lady Vols will close out non-conference play with a match against Queens University on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium. The match will kick off at 1 P.M. EST.  The Royals are 0-1-2 on the season, the loss coming against Mississippi College and ties against West Florida and Morehead State.
