In a Volunteer State matchup, the Vols will fittingly wear their newest iteration of the Smokey Grey uniform series to open their 2024 season.

Tennessee hosts the in-state FCS Chattanooga Mocs on Aug. 31 (12:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network) at Neyland Stadium.

The Nike uniforms feature homages to the Vols’ home state. The uniforms feature a dark grey jersey with Tennessee written in orange lettering, the first time the state name has appeared on a home jersey. The “Volunteer State” uniforms have the tri-star design featured on the Tennessee state flag on the shoulders.

The pants are grey with an orange stripe, that includes a smaller white stripe, paying homage to the Tennessee state flag’s white stripe. The pants also have three stars on the stripe.

The helmet is the mountain range grey helmets the Smokey Grey series has featured in the past that include the Power T and an orange stripe, but with a white stripe beside the usual orange stripe for this iteration. The helmets have a grey facemask.

The “Volunteer State” Smokey Grey uniforms follow the “Artful Dodger” Smokey Grey uniforms unveiled last year to honor trailblazer Tennessee QB Condredge Holloway.
